Joan Derk van der Capellen tot den /pol/ is a fictional story that explores different ways in which important ideas can proliferate in today's media landscape.
Joan Derk van der Capellen tot den Pol was a Dutch nobleman who contributed to the formation of the Batavian Republic in the Netherlands in 1795 through a pamphlet which he anonymously distributed in Amsterdam by throwing it out of the windows of a horse carriage in the dark of night.
On the day before his big political stunt, he mysteriously wakes up in the year 2017. Still eager to spread his ideas of democracy and political participation, he begins navigating the fragmented contemporary media landscape. What would be the best way to share ideas worth spreading? To find out, me and Paul Bille went to Amsterdam, printed out his manifesto and threw it out of the window of an Uber.
